     FerroSilicon is a kind of ferroalloy which is composed of iron and silicon. FerroSilicon is made by electric furnace with the raw materials coke, quartz (or silica) and iron scrap. Due to the silicon and oxygen are easily compound into SiO2, so ferro silicon is often used as deoxidizer in steelmaking.

     (1) Used as deoxidizer and alloying agent in steelmaking industry. In order to obtain steel with qualified chemical composition and ensure the quality of steel, deoxidation must be carried out in the steelmaking stage. The chemical affinity between silicon and oxygen is very large. Therefore, ferrosilicon is a strong deoxidizer for steelmaking for precipitation and diffusion deoxidation. .

     (2) Used as an inoculant and spheroidizing agent in the cast iron industry. Cast iron is an important metal material in modern industry. It is cheaper than steel, easy to melt and smelt, has excellent casting performance and much better vibration ability than steel.

     (3) Used as a reducing agent in the production of ferroalloys. Not only the chemical affinity between silicon and oxygen is great, but also the carbon content of high-silicon ferrosilicon is very low. Therefore, high-silicon ferrosilicon (or silicon alloy) is a commonly used reducing agent in the production of low-carbon iron alloys in the ferroalloy industry.

     (4) The ground or atomized ferrosilicon powder can be used as the suspended phase in the mineral processing industry. It can be used as coating for welding rods in welding rod manufacturing. High-silicon ferrosilicon can be used to manufacture silicone and other products in the chemical industry.
