Introduction of Low Carbon Ferrochrome


Low Carbon Ferrochrome is mainly used to improve the antioxidation and corrosion resistance of steel to make the surface of steelafter it is oxidized to form strong adhension oxide film. Then it stops being oxidized or decelerates being oxidized. Micro-carbon ferro chrome is applied to making stainless steel, acid-resistant steel and heat resistant steel .


Classification of Low Carbon Ferrochrome :


      Low Carbon Ferrochrome is classified into high carbon ferrochrome according to different carbon content, including loading grade ferrochrome (C≦10%), medium carbon ferrochrome (C≦4.0%), low carbon ferrochrome (C≦0.5%), microcarbon Ferrochrome (C≦0.15%), etc. Commonly used are silicon chromium alloys, chromium nitride and the like. Ferrochromium is mainly used as an alloying additive for steelmaking, and was added in the later stages of refining of steelmaking. In the smelting of low-carbon steel such as stainless steel, low-carbon and micro-carbon ferrochrome must be used, so the production of refined ferrochrome has once been developed on a large scale. Due to the improvement of the steelmaking process, when producing steel such as stainless steel by the AOD method (see refining outside the furnace), the carbon ferrochrome (mainly the charging grade ferrochrome) is used for the furnace, so it is only necessary to increase the temperature in the later stage. Micro-carbon ferrochrome is used to adjust the composition, so now the focus of ferrochrome production is to refine carbon ferrochrome.
