High-carbon silicon is made from petroleum coke and silicon dioxide as main raw materials, with salt as additives, and is smelted at high temperature in a resistance furnace. High-carbon silicon Application:
1. High-carbon silicon electrical applications: heating elements, such as silicon carbide rods (applicable to various electric furnaces operating at 1100-1500°C), non-linear resistance elements and various lightning rod plates. Used for heating elements, non-linear resistance elements and high semiconductor materials.
2. Chemical application of high-carbon silicon: silicon carbide decomposes in molten steel and reacts with oxygen and metal oxides in molten steel to form carbon monoxide and silicon slag. It usually uses low-purity silicon carbide to reduce costs. It can also be used as a raw material for the production of silicon tetrachloride. Therefore, it can be used as a refining equipment for steelmaking, such as a deoxidizer for steelmaking and a structural improver for cast iron.
3. High carbon silicon as abrasive: mainly due to the high hardness, chemical stability and toughness of high carbon silicon. Therefore, high carbon silicon can be used to manufacture cemented carbide abrasive tools, coated abrasive tools, loose abrasive tools, glass, ceramics, cast iron, some non-ferrous metals, cemented carbide, stone, titanium alloy, high-speed steel tools and sharpening stones.
4. High-carbon silicon is used as a refractory and corrosion-resistant material: mainly due to its high melting point (decomposition), chemical inertness and resistance to heat and vibration. Therefore, high carbon silicon can be used as a grinding tool. Ceramic products are fired into kiln sheds, gravel, crucibles, aluminum reduction electrolyzers, silicon carbide bricks used in vertical distillation furnaces in the zinc smelting industry, small charge and other silicon carbide ceramic products.
